St Andrews University student Jethro Dowell spent his 22nd birthday shaving his girlfriend's hair to raise funds for AICR.
And despite a captive audience in The Union TV room, he kept a steady hand and even managed the odd one-liner as he first cut, then shaved Naomi Brown's hair.
Naomi (21) had set a target of £300 for her fund-raising effort, but with money still coming in, she looks to be on track to raise much more.
Initially the Theology and Biblical Studies student at St Andrews University dyed her hair blue during RAG Week to raise awareness – and cash - for AICR.
In just 20 minutes, Naomi's blue bob had been consigned to the floor and while she still managed a smile, she confessed to feeling: “Weird” after having her crowning glory shorn in front of friends and representatives from the charity.
As to why she did it, she said: “I heard AICR was a really good international charity and the fact that it is based in St Andrews where I am studying, made me want to do something to support it. I like the fact that AICR has no boundaries and funds the best research, anywhere in the world.”
Jethro, who last year organised a fund-raising Mother's Day concert in St Salvator's Chapel in St Andrews in aid of AICR agreed. “As a student, you are interested in how your money is being used and I liked that I could see what AICR was doing with the money,” he explained.
The charity's fundraising spokesperson Geraldine Long said everyone at the charity had been overwhelmed by Naomi's brave efforts. “We are incredibly grateful to her for going to such lengths to raise funds for us and to help raise AICR's profile in the community.”
