AICR has set up a presence in the online world of Second Life. For those unfamiliar with it, Second Life is one of the most popular virtual worlds on the internet. In it, players can build whole new cities or exact replicas of existing ones. Tens of thousands of people take part in social interactions every day and the growth in numbers playing is extraordinary.
AICR sees Second Life as a great way to connect with a new generation of supporters.

The entrance to AICR Island in Second Life |
Already we have hundreds of people in the game who are actively promoting our cause by wearing AICR T-shirts, by taking part in fun auctions and generally spreading the word. Since 2006 we have been holding many fun events and in early 2008 we opened "AICR Island". The island is a place for our supporters to gather, learn more about AICR's work and meet their friends. As well as our "in world" offices, the island has villas which our supporters rent, shops, a night club and auditorium where we put on live music events to raise funds. We will shortly be holding the first of our cancer Q&A sessions where anyone interested can come along and ask our cancer expert questions on relevant topics. As soon as the date is set, we'll post it here.
If you would like to visit us, please follow this link. You will need to have the Second Life program installed on your computer to join in, but there is a button on that page which will allow you to do this.
Even if you've never taken a look at online games, please take 10 minutes to download the software and come over and see us - we'll make you very welcome.
