One of our supporters ran a marathon in Malta to raise vital funds for our vital cancer research. 58 year old Vivien Mifsud, whose husband's family is from the island, decided to take on the challenge after her friend’s prostate cancer returned in a much more aggressive form. Hearing of his struggle with the disease motivated her to put her running shoes on for AICR. Sadly her friend passed away recently.
Vivien took part in the Land Rover Malta Marathon on Sunday 1st March 2009 and finished the race in a very respectable 4 hours 21 mins. She said: “I’ve been giving money to AICR regularly for more than 20 years but I felt it was time to use my hobby to raise more money for research. Cancer affects nearly every family and if I can do just a little to help, I will.”
AICR's Development Assistant, Helen Ironside, added: “We are really impressed by Vivien’s enthusiasm and determination to make a difference. Currently AICR is funding 231 different projects in 23 countries and we know that this would not be possible without people like Vivien.”
You can still sponsor Vivien here and by selecting "Malta Marathon" from the drop down menu or at her justgiving page.
