Every year, thousands of people take part in a range of events with the aim of having a great time, and raising some money for charity. For many years AICR supporters have taken part in the Virgin London Marathon and Great North Run - they have trekked across deserts, driven a black cab to Istanbul and cycled the East Coast of Australia to boost our funds.

” AICR is a wonderful charity to be associated with. You give people hope. Cancer is that type of illness that, unfortunately, a lot of us still relate to. So many of us have experience of it in our lives.” Silvia Pellegrino of Chouchou Couture |
This year AICR has had a starring role in a glittering event featuring five of Scotland’s best emerging fashion and jewellery designers. Chouchou, Lilly Wiggler Couture, Rene Walrus, Nadine Schloen and Ursula’s Designs ensured Glasgow had its very own share of London Fashion Week fun and drama.
In 2011, Charlie Reid from The Proclaimers agreed to take part in the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run, not to only raise money for AICR, but to highlight its key role in the global fight against cancer. For the past six years the Leith-born twins have been ambassadors for the charity.
He said:“I am delighted to be running for a Scottish-based charity, doing such vital research across the world, that we have supported for a number of years. I'm looking forward to it very much.”

A group of Leica camera enthusiasts put together a book to raise money for AICR. The users of the L•Camera Forum were offered the chance to submit up to three of their images to be in with a chance of appearing in the book. For every image submitted there was a mandatory donation of £10, which went directly to AICR. More than £12,000 was raised and the group members are producing another book in 2012!
We organised a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Kilimanjaro to raise funds for our vital cancer research. The trek, which took place on 8th – 16th September 2011, guided our trekkers through dense rainforests, open moorlands, dwindling heath land and fabled glacial craters.
One way of helping us fund more cutting edge cancer research projects is to take part in a local event with your friends, neighbours or work colleagues. It might be a coffee morning, a car boot sale or a larger scale event such as a dance or race night.
