David Tennant

The Association for International Cancer Research is delighted to welcome actor David Tennant as our latest celebrity patron.

David, currently playing "The Doctor" in the BBC TV series "Dr Who", came on board as he was filming the third annual Christmas special of the popular cult sci-fi series with Kylie Minogue (who has herself fought breast cancer). He made the commitment after he heard of the ground-breaking work the charity funds around the world.

David, who is 36 and comes from West Lothian, says: “I know only too well that cancer strikes without regard to age or race, country or creed, fame or fortune. I believe AICR’s approach to funding research, wherever in the world it is taking place, is at the forefront of the battle to bring cancer under control and I am proud to have been asked to become a patron.”

Chief Executive, Norman Barrett is delighted the popular TV star has accepted the invitation to help raise awareness of the charity and its research. “Cancer claims the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across the globe every year. Yet work undertaken by AICR and others is making a difference in identifying the causes and the new treatments that will make a difference. As The Doctor, David is expert at fighting threats to mankind: we hope his support will help us in the biggest medical fight we face – the fight against cancer.”

"With contributions from like minded people, we have been funding cutting edge research for 28 years - with your help we can continue to do so."
