In the summer of 2007, AICR launched a major new campaign - Combat Cancer 2020. The aim is to raise money for projects which will ensure that by 2020, 8 out of 10 people can be successfully treated for cancer and go on to live a full and active life.
Bernard W. Stewart, Ph.D. co-editor of the World Cancer Report stated the following, "By acting now, by the year 2020, countries can achieve significant reductions in cancer rates and in mortality from cancer. These opportunities exist, and the only question is whether we will take advantage of them for the benefit of all humankind." It is only through funding fundamental research today, that treatments and cures will exist in the future that will allow this vision to be realised. That is the purpose of the Combat Cancer 2020 campaign.
